Features of the Crane Hydraulic Power Pack

Built-in relief valve to prevent overpressure damage and prevent accidental load drops.

The variable pump distributes the flow according to the real-time load, reducing system heating and energy loss.

The efficient radiators make sure stable hydraulic oil viscosity during continuous high-intensity operations.
Energy Storage for Emergency Operations
Our crane hydraulic power pack is equipped with an accumulator. It can buffer system pressure fluctuations, prevent hydraulic pumps from being damaged due to instantaneous overload, and store excess hydraulic power. When there is a sudden power outage or power source failure, the accumulator can quickly release power to drive the crane to complete emergency operations such as smoothly lowering the load, eliminating the risk of falling objects from heights and improving operational safety.

Prevent Load Drift
The hydraulic cylinders of the crane will experience load drift due to prolonged operation. For large tonnage cranes, our crane hydraulic power pack is equipped with high-performance balancing valves. It functions like a hydraulic lock, which can lock the boom in a precise position for a long time, preventing displacement caused by the weight of the load. It also keeps a smooth descent of the load by generating back pressure to counteract the weight of the load.
Anti Vibration Structure
The frequent lifting operations of the crane and the continuous vibration of the chassis often lead to hydraulic pipeline fatigue and joint leakage. We equip the hydraulic power unit of the crane with a shock-absorbing base and use heavy-duty flared hydraulic fittings. The internal pipelines of the power pack will be fixed with shock-absorbing clamps to minimize resonance. This prevents manifold cracks and loose joints, making the crane hydraulic power pack more durable under heavy load conditions.

Applications of the Crane Hydraulic Power Pack

The crane hydraulic power unit can provide stable and controllable hydraulic power for the telescoping of the outriggers, the extension of the boom, and the lifting of heavy objects of the truck-mounted crane. It can be easily integrated into various vehicles. Meanwhile, the crane hydraulic power pack can obtain power from the vehicle’s battery through the PTO.

The crane hydraulic power unit can drive the lifting equipment on ships or offshore drilling platforms to transfer goods. We use C5-M grade marine anti-corrosion coating and specialized seals to block seawater intrusion, keeping reliable operation of the hydraulic power pack in high salt spray and high humidity environments.

The hydraulic power unit can provide a continuous and high-torque output for the hydraulic winch and boom of the rescue vehicle. It can provide smooth and strong power when lifting or towing faulty vehicles, preventing shaking during rescue operations and keeping safety.

Warehouses and ports usually require frequent lifting operations. The hydraulic power unit of the crane provides stable hydraulic power for container loading and unloading or material handling. The large capacity cooling system of the power pack can prevent component wear caused by hydraulic oil viscosity reduction due to overheating during high-frequency lifting cycles.

When the environmental temperature is below -20 ℃, the viscosity of hydraulic oil will increase and the fluidity will seriously decrease. If the hydraulic power pack operates at a low speed for a long time and does not frequently operate each actuator, the oil in the pump will not circulate sufficiently, the temperature rise will be slow, and the oil will remain in a high-viscosity state.
If the action is suddenly executed at this time, the hydraulic pump will instantly suck in high viscosity cold oil. This will cause a sudden increase in driving torque, exceeding the stress limit of the transmission shaft and coupling, resulting in torsional failure.
Firstly, you need to confirm whether low pour point hydraulic oil has been used and whether the hydraulic oil level is within the standard range. Then check if the return oil filter and suction filter are clogged, as pollutants are more likely to adhere and cause cavitation at low temperatures. Finally, check whether the fuel tank heater and the circulation heating system are functioning properly.
If there is no heating device and safety conditions permit, you may consider installing an external heating device to preheat the hydraulic oil before starting the power pack.
If the motor is running but there is no pressure, this usually indicates that the main relief valve is stuck in the open position. The pollutants may get stuck on the valve seat, preventing it from closing and causing all flow to bypass directly back to the fuel tank.
Another possible reason could be a breakage of the pump shaft key or a malfunction of the coupling between the motor and the pump. It is recommended to first check if there are any impurities in the relief valve. Then check the connection between the power source and the hydraulic pump to make sure that the torque can be transmitted normally.
Sharp noise usually indicates pump cavitation or blockage in the oil suction pipeline. You can check whether the oil filter screen is clogged with debris and whether the viscosity of the oil is too high for the current environmental temperature. A clogged air filter on the hydraulic tank can also hinder the pump’s oil suction.
If the oil suction path is unobstructed but the noise persists, it may indicate that the internal components of the pump have worn out and require a volumetric efficiency test.
What is the Crane Hydraulic Power Pack?
The crane hydraulic power pack is an independent device that provides hydraulic power for cranes. It drives the hydraulic pump through a motor or an engine, pressurizing the hydraulic oil and delivering it to the hydraulic circuit of the crane, thereby providing power to the actuators such as hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors.
How to Choose a Crane Hydraulic Power Pack?
Determine the Pressure and Flow Requirements
The maximum lifting capacity of the crane is related to the system pressure. And the operating speed of the crane depends on the hydraulic flow. You should calculate the peak pressure and flow required by the actuator under full load conditions.
If the crane hydraulic power pack is too small in specification, it will result in slow movements. On the other hand, if the specification is too large, it will lead to more energy loss and system overheating.
Consider Work Frequency and Heat Dissipation Requirements
The frequent operation cycles of the crane will generate a large amount of heat in the hydraulic oil. In this situation, your crane hydraulic power pack must be equipped with a cooling system, such as air-cooled or water-cooled heat exchangers, to maintain the viscosity of the hydraulic oil. For intermittent lifting operations, using a hydraulic power pack with a large capacity oil tank can meet the heat dissipation requirements.
Choose the Appropriate Power Supply Type and Driving Method
If there is a stable power supply at the working site of your crane, a motor-driven hydraulic power pack would be more suitable. For example, fixed industrial cranes usually use AC motors. For car cranes, you can choose a hydraulic power pack driven by PTO. If the crane is operating in an area without a power grid, you will need to use a hydraulic power pack driven by a diesel or gasoline engine.
Consider the Working Environment
The crane may operate outdoors, at construction sites, or in harsh environments. These environments have high requirements for the protection level, sealing performance and weather resistance of the hydraulic power pack.
If used in an oceanic environment, your crane hydraulic power pack should be equipped with 316L stainless steel components and C5-M grade anti-corrosion coating. For areas with low temperatures, you need to equip an oil heater and special seals.
At the same time, understanding factors such as the environmental temperature range, humidity, and dust levels helps determine the IP protection level and filtration accuracy required for the crane hydraulic power pack.
