Understanding Hydraulic Stack Valve

What is a Hydraulic Stack Valve?

As its name implies, these are modular valves stacked over the base plate. It is also called sandwich valves. These valves are designed with a standardized mounting surface. Its mounting surface is designed according to the standards of International Organization Standardization for solenoid-operated directional valves.

Hydraulic stack valves are commonly available in various sizes without exceeding 1/8 to 1 ¼. These valves can provide multiple flow, pressure, and more functions. It also increases efficiency, low installation cost, and space-saving.

Different Mounting Pattern Standards to Adhere

The mounting patterns of the hydraulic stack valve must adhere to NFPA and ISO standards including:

  • NG6
  • NG10
  • NG16
  • D03
  • D05
  • D07

Functions of Modular Stack Valve

A series of direct check valves is configured as a modular stack valve. These are designed with ISO 4401 and NFPA-approved mounting surfaces. Hydraulic stack valves that are used for direct-operated check valve functions are available with mounting patterns such as D03 or D05. These valves has 5000PSI ratings as well as 26GPM. They are commonly used for the following applications:

  • Tank line
  • Pressure line circuits
  • Generating back-pressures
  • Line self-emptying
  • Preventing oil back flow
Pressure Control

Hydraulic stack valves used for pressure control functions are available in different work ports. Thus, you can control the pressure function in your system. It has 5000PSI, 26GPM, and various mounting patterns. It is used for controlling pressure in different aspects including:

  • System pressure
  • Pressure of the circuit
Flow Control
Flow Control

Hydraulic stack valves also functions by controlling the amount of flow rates. These valves are made from different materials and each has a specific usage. Cast iron valves are normally used for controlling non-compensated flows. On the other hand, aluminum valves are used for controlling pressure-compensated flows.

  • Meter in/Meter out function
  • Comes with different mounting patterns (D03/D05)

Hydraulic stack valves also block an oil movement.  Whether the oil is from an actuator or control valve. Proportional valves are commonly used together with hydraulic stack valves. They are responsible for oil movement if the system is not functioning.

Load Handling

Hydraulic stack valves for load handling uses a different type of valve such as:

  • Counterbalance
  • Pilot-operated check
  • Pilot assisted
  • Load-holding device
  • Cartridge type

Applications of Hydraulic Stack Valve

Die-Casting Foundry
Machine Tooling Pulp and Paper
Test Equipment Marine/Offshore
Turbine Control Presses
Wood Processing Primary Metals
Industrial Machines Plastics

Hydraulic stack valves are used across different industries due to their outstanding advantages including:

Compact Stacking

Hydraulic stack valves only require a small space when mounting. Thus, making it space-saving.

Makes Building Circuit Easy

Since hydraulic stack valves do not require assembly work and piping, it helps in building a circuit easily.

These valves are not prone to noise, vibration, or leakage since it doesn’t have any piping.

Easy to Maintain

The valve body is quick to assemble and disassemble. Thus, it is easy to perform regular maintenance without disturbing the stack.

Flexibility of Design

Hydraulic stack valves are configurable to meet every system’s needs. It can provide different functions such as throttle, relief, check, counterbalance, sequencing, and more.
